The Committee on Urban Environment (CUE) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting nominations for its 31st CUE Awards. Since 1970, the Committee on Urban Environment, a citizen participation committee of the Minneapolis Planning Department, has advocated for design efforts that surpass the norm to define and beautify our city's urban environment.
The annual CUE Awards recognize excellence in urban, architectural, or environmental design, historic preservation, streetscape beautification, parks and open spaces, special events, neighborhood improvement, public art, and personal (or lifetime) achievement. Each fall CUE hosts an awards ceremony to honor projects that have been nominated and to announce the winning projects that best capture the urban spirit and enrich the City's landscape.
Last year, the NRP was a partner in several projects that received CUE Awards, including: East Village, a mixed-income, 179-unit housing and retail development located in the Elliot Park neighborhood; the Humboldt Greenway Redevelopment, a project that is bringing more than 200 new units of housing and vast green space to Humboldt Avenue from 47th to 53rd avenues N., and Agape Dos, an adult foster-care home for Latinos living with AIDS.
In order to be eligible for a CUE Award, projects and/or events must be located within the City of Minneapolis and have been completed within the past five years. To facilitate an adequate and equitable evaluation of each nomination, CUE requests submission of photographs and slides, as well as a brief narrative and copies of press coverage (if applicable).
To apply, please submit photos, slides and a brief project narrative to CUE, 350 South Fifth Street - Room 210
Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415-1385 by September 30, 2002. Nominations can also be made online at
